About us

  The Department of International Trade and Finance was established in 1993 with the right to grant a doctorate in Applied Economics and Bachelor’s in International Economics and Trade. The department comprises 14 faculty members: 1 professor, 11 associate professors, and 2 lecturers. All faculty members are PhD holders and have studied overseas.

  The research endeavors of the department’s faculty members mainly focus on international trade and transnational operations, as well as financial markets and innovation. The faculty members have likewise conducted relevant research on the theories, methods, and policies related to such topics as safeguarding national trade security and evading national financial risks. Meanwhile, the department has been recognized for various and distinctive research outcomes in such fields as “International Trade Carbon Emissions Responsibility Division” and “National Sovereign Wealth Fund Investment Model and Investment Strategy.” In recent years, our faculty members have published over 300 papers and compiled, edited, and translated over 20 monographs. Moreover, we received research funding from the National Natural (Social) Science Foundation of China (5), Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Fund (4), and Basic Research Fund of Beijing Institute of Technology (15) amounting to over 5 million yuan.

  Apart from focusing on research of economic theories, our faculty members are also committed to combining economic theories and methods with the study of China’s economic policies and engaging in research projects commissioned by several national policy-making departments. Meanwhile, we also provide theoretical basis and policy advice to assist China to participate in economic globalization in a risk-free manner, reduce the risk of opening up, and analyze the international financial crisis and response to transnational infection.

  The department also offers a complete training system at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. We likewise set up a major in International Economics and Trade that is taught exclusively in English and developed courses and contents on the basis of international requirements. The full-English teaching mode guides students to obtain rigorous and solid training in economic theories and approaches. Moreover, the combination of BIT's industrial and informatization background with the international characteristics of this major has enabled our department to develop talented students with a global perspective and solid professional knowledge in economics and other multidisciplinary fields.

  In recent years, many students who obtained undergraduate degrees in our department have continued their academic pursuits in such esteemed higher learning institutions as the University of Chicago, Duke University, Cornell University, University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
