Recently, the Global Sustainability Supply Chain Student Competition concluded with its global finals. The "United for Sustainability" undergraduate team from the School of Management and Economics at Beijing Institute of Technology stood out among numerous undergraduate and graduate teams, winning the global gold award (ranked first).
The Global Sustainability Supply Chain Student Competition is supported by the United Nations Group of Friends for Sustainable Transport and is organized by the Global Supply Chain Classroom and the International Center for Transportation Diplomacy. The competition aims to propose innovative solutions to sustainability-related issues and challenges faced by global supply chains.
The inaugural competition began in September 2023, lasting three months and spanning regions including Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. It attracted participation from prestigious universities such as Beijing Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Wisconsin, and Moscow State University. After rigorous evaluation by experts from institutions such as the World Bank, Maersk, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and the International Center for Transportation Diplomacy (ICTD), the undergraduate team "United for Sustainability" from BIT, guided by Professor Zhang Xiang and Professor Li Guo, won the global gold award (Best Sustainable Solution Team - Gold) as an independent team.
The "United for Sustainability" team is composed of four undergraduates from different grades and academic backgrounds. During the preparation period, under the careful guidance of Professor Zhang Xiang and Professor Li Guo, the team conducted multiple rounds of discussions, data research, data collection, and case analysis, continuously learning about operations management and supply chain knowledge, ultimately forming an innovative and comprehensive solution. Throughout three rounds of competition, the team repeatedly revised, compared, deliberated, and re-revised their plan, producing over 30 text drafts and nearly 40 presentation drafts. The team members united, overcame difficulties, and worked hard, while the professors provided timely guidance and stress relief. Through mutual support and persistent efforts for excellence, the team finally won the global championship.
After the competition, the organizing committee selected outstanding student representatives to form the "Global Youth Sustainable Supply Chain Advocacy" ambassador group. This group will liaise with UN-related agencies and the headquarters of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations as student ambassadors to promote sustainable supply chains and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). BIT student Huang Yuwei was selected for this ambassador group.
