Dr. Hooman Peimani Gives Lecture on Liangxiang Campus

On the evening of April 24th, Dr. Hooman Peimani, a renowned Canadian energy economist and senior consultant, gave an academic report on the Liangxiang campus. Teachers and students from the Liangxiang campus actively participated and the lectures with enthusiastic responses.

Dr. Hooman Peimani's lecture entitled "Asia's Energy Exports in Russia: Potentials and Limitations" and Dr. Hooman Peimani considers Russia to be the world's largest exporter of oil and natural gas. Because the European Union (EU) has announced plans to end serious energy dependence on Russia, Russia has been planning to shift its energy export focus from Europe to Asia, both for strategic considerations and as a long-term need. Although Asia accepts Russia and is willing to become its long-term energy market, Russia’s achievements in this market will be limited compared with Europe in the foreseeable future. The main influencing factor lies in the large number of suppliers, while Asia's large energy importers are reluctant to rely heavily on any single supplier. For historical reasons and concerns about its re-emergence as a superpower, it is particularly reluctant to use Russia as a single supplier. Geographical obstacles also limit Russia’s access to other Asian markets. For oil/gas exports, unless the EU changes its policy on Iran, Europe will remain the major Russian market for the foreseeable future, and this is Russia's only realistic long-term alternative.
