December 1, 2010, Dr. Yang Xiaoguang, the National Outstanding Youth Foundation Winner, researcher of Chinese Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, gave a wonderful speech sharing his research experience in the Main Building. Part of SME teachers and students participated in the seminar. Professor Ma Ming, Director of Department of Applied Economics, presided.
Dr. Yang Xiaoguang put forward a research model that includes observation of real life, making his own assumptions, interpretation with mathematical model, explanation of economic implications, the empirical test and application stages. He will discuss data collection and processing, variable selection, how to model the abstract problem quantitatively, how to explain the correctness of the results, and share with the audience his insights and experience of years of research. Professor Yang will illustrate with a large number of classic examples the laws governing the operation of monetary multiplier, coalition formation game, poor loan recovery rate and economic cycles, developing countries’ foreign trade strategy and institution choice, the economic value of the credit rating system, and an investor sentiment index.
This seminar provided a very useful learning experience to those who came to participate.
Speaker Profile:
Mr. Yang Xiaoguang is a researcher at Chinese Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science and Director of Chinese Academy Management Decision and Information Systems Key Lab. He is mainly engaged in combinatorial optimization, macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, financial market analysis and risk management research, and development of decision support systems.
Mr. Yang was a Tsinghua University PhD. graduate and postdoctoral researcher of Chinese Academy Institute of Systems Science. He has done long-term collaborative research at Kyoto University in Japan, the Netherlands Erasmus University, Canada York University, and City University of Hong Kong. He presided over and participated in the national 863 high-tech project, the National 973 project sub-project, the National Natural Science Foundation key sub-project, the National Natural Science Foundation key project, National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Innovative Group project, and the National Natural Science Foundation director-level project. He is the National Outstanding Youth Fund and the State Council special allowance winner. He has won the first prize of China Logistics Applications Award, Mao Yisheng Award for Young Scientists, Chinese Academy of Sciences Outstanding Postdoctoral Award, first prize of Beijing Science and Technology, China Youth Science and Technology Award, the second prize of Hunan Science and Technology Award, and many other awards.
In macroeconomic analysis, Mr. Yang has done a great job in early warning and forecasting of macroeconomic. Some of his policy proposals have received attention and been adopted by the Central Office of the State Council, the SASAC and other departments. In addition, he presided over the development of decision support systems for the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, Ministry of Commerce, the People’s Bank of China, Bank of China, Huaxia Bank, Baoshan Iron and Steel (Group) Company. These systems have played an important role in decision-making, management and production, and been highly praised.
