On the afternoon of May 17, 2023, Professor Michael Pollitt from the Judge School of Business at the University of Cambridge was invited to give an academic presentation titled 'Retail and Wholesale Electricity Markets under stress - Lessons learn for the future of market design in Europe' to both the center and faculty. The lecture was chaired by Professor Wang Ke, and some teachers and students from the center and college participated in the lecture.

Professor Michael Pollitt analyzed the challenges faced by the European power market to deal with a high proportion of renewable energy and the possible future development direction, reviewed the European Energy crisis and its impact on electricity prices, sorted out and evaluated various European measures to deal with the Energy crisis. Professor Michael Pollitt believes that in the context of the current Energy crisis, taxing energy profits is better than directly intervening in prices.

Michael Pollitt is a professor at the Judge School of Business at the University of Cambridge, deputy director of the Cambridge Energy Policy Research Group, and editorial board member of journals such as The Energy Journal, Review of Industrial Organization, Competition and Regulation in Network Industries, Energy and Climate Change, Economics of Energy and Environmental Policy and Utilities Policy.
