Lectures by Professor Liang Huigang from the University of East Carolina

July 3, 2019, 9:00 - 12:00, 18:00 - 21:00, and July 5, 18:30 - 21:30, Professor Liang Huigang from the University of East Carolina, a visiting professor at the School of Management and Economics, made a presentation entitled “Exploration or Exploitation? How IT Ambidexterity Affects Organizational Agility”, “Predicting the risk of acute care readmissions among rehabilitation inpatients: A machine learning approach” and “Healthcare Data Analytics: Opportunities and Challenges for Information Systems Researchers” in Room 418 of the main building. .The report was hosted by Associate Professor Jia Lin of the Department of Management Engineering. The teachers of the Department of Management Engineering, some doctoral students and master students attended the seminar.

In the two-day report, Professor Liang Huigang first introduced his recent research work on "IT Ambidexterity".This work has strong simultaneity hypothesis for the exploitation and exploration of the duality in the current literature. It does not recognize the status quo of the independent role of each dimension, and uses different research methods to examine the information technology utilization and information. Professor Liang introduced a predictive study using machine learning on the risk of re-admission of hospitalized patients who have recovered. The results of this study show that machine learning algorithms can be used to analyze functional independence measures and predict emergency readmissions, thus improving the effectiveness of preventive medicine. On the last day, Professor Liang analyzed the opportunities and challenges of information system researchers in the use of medical data analysis research, pointing out the direction for our future research work.

After the report, Professor Liang Huigang seriously answered questions from teachers and students on research issues, research methods and data processing, and shared his valuable experience in the academic research process including thesis writing and submission.
