Submissions Welcome For Enterprise Modeling Special Issue!

Journal of Enterprise Transformation (JET), a new journal publishing in 2011, is inviting papers for its special issue on Enterprise Modeling (Vol. 1, Issue 3). For full details on this issue, click here.

Models are a representation (graphical, textual and/or tabular) of some reality. As was noted by George Box (1987), “Essentially, all models are wrong, but some are useful”. Ask any group familiar with the topic for a definition of enterprise modeling, and the number of discrete answers may be n+1, more than are in the group. Some of the issues that cause this confusion include:

Lack of common understanding of the term enterprise modeling, i.e., what constitutes enterprise and what constitutes modeling
Growth and availability of modeling languages, tools, and methods. Common terms in use today include: reference architectures, behavioral modeling, business process modeling, simulation, BPMN, BPEL, UML/SysML, IDEF, system dynamics, agent-based modeling (and the list seems to grow monthly)
The perception that it is expensive, performed by a small set of practitioners, and of little value to the rest of the enterprise

This special issue will explore the growth of modeling as a tool for transformation in organizations focused on product development, service delivery, etc. Suggested topics of interest might include (but are not limited to):

Leveraging the use of models to inform executive decision making
The use of modeling during, or in support of, enterprise transformation
Case studies on modeling across program and project lifecycle phases
Characteristics of modeling along the lifecycle stages
New and emerging modeling approaches

The journal is a forum for original articles on trends, new findings, and ongoing research (both theory and application) related to enterprise transformation.
